High School Ice Hockey:
Township Has Little Trouble With Triton

Playing without five regulars on Friday night, Washington Township skated to an 8-3 victory over visiting Triton as Bobby Strauss and Derek Poletis each had a hat trick. Township scored their first goal with less than two minutes into the game as Mike Murro scored with Mike Fabrizio getting the assist. Both teams had trouble generating any offense, with Triton putting only six shots on goal for the period. But they got the tying goal on the power play as Caporale scored with the assist going to Chranowski, and the period ended tied at 1-1.

High School Football:
Overbrook Finishes Perfect Season With Group 4 Title

The Group 4 final was held at Rutgers Stadium in New Brunswick, which just added to the "big game" feel of this contest. The Shawnee Renegades had upset Eastern and Cherokee to get to this game, and were looking for a third upset. The Overbrook Rams had their own goal of a 12-0 perfect season. It took an improvised play with 0:27 left on the clock, as Rams' quarterback Byron Brown threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Jon Scialabba which broke a 14-14 tie to win the game.

Ocean City Upsets Toms River South To Win Group 3

The Ocean City Red Raiders made their presence known early by scoring three unanswered touchdowns in the first quarter of the Group 3 championship game, enabling them to go on to a 34-18 defeat of first-seeded Toms River South. The Red Raiders finished the season 11-1, previously capturing the Cape-Atlantic Division A title.

Deptford Shuts Out Gloucester In Group 2 Final

The Deptford Spartans (8-3) visited the Gloucester City Lions (11-0) in the Group 2 championship game. The Lions were heavily favored, and were looking to complete an undefeated season. But the Spartans had already taken care of Moorestown and Haddon Heights (the third and second seeds) to reach this game, and were ready to play the first seeded Lions. The Deptford defense shut down the Lions' high powered offense, cruising to the title with an impressive 21-0 victory.

Woodbury Defense Dominates 'Dawgs

The Woodbury Thundering Herd defeated the Glassboro Bulldawgs in the Group 1 title game 21-6, which was played in front of a crowd of over 2,300. The Herd defense set the tone early as they held the 'Dawgs to negative yardage on their first 3 possessions and no first downs. On Woodbury's first possession, senior quarterback Ryan Kent ran 76 yards for the game's first touchdown and the Herd were up 7-0 with less than 2 minutes into the game.

Washington Township Trounces Edgewood 9-3

Washington Township's varsity ice hockey team skated to a 9-3 victory over Edgewood on Friday night at Hollydell Ice Rink. After spotting Edgewood a 2-0 lead in the first 5 minutes, Township finally got on the board on a power play as Joey Gori scored his first of three goals to make it 2-1. With the score tied at 2, Adam Zaccaria scored the first of his 2 goals of the night and Township had its first lead at 3-2. However, Edgewood would tie the score less than 2 minutes later at 3-3.

Shawnee Puts Away Rancocas Valley

At the Medford Ice Rink, Rancocas Valley hosted Shawnee in a match of South Jersey High School Hockey action. Derek Megargel for the Renegades had two goals and an assist in the victory. Dan Rybeck and Kevein Eppolite each had a goal in the 4-1 win.
