The Eastern High School golf team took home both the individual and team chamionships at the Camden County Open held Thursday at the par 72 Valleybrook Golf Club. The Vikings edged Triton by three strokes, winning with an overall 328. B.J. Jaworski won the individual championship with a 75, narrowly defeating Chris Kelly of Haddonfield and Bob Hennefer of Bishop Eustace. Kelly and Hennefer both shot a 78, but Kelly was awarded second place after a match of cards.

Special Event: Local Scholar-Athlete Honored With Trip To St. Louis For NCAA National Championship Game Thursday, April 5, 2001 By Karen Bruderle Thanks to Voorhees-based American Water Works Company, Kate Gagliardi of Manalapan spent this past weekend in St. Louis with her seven fellow Hoops & Heroes scholarship program winners, taking in the women's collegiate championship game and attending an awards ceremony in their honor. Hoops & Heroes is a scholarship program designed to honor high school female basketball players for their academic, athletic and community service achievements. The eight young women were awarded with a trip to St. Louis for themselves and a guardian, as well as a $1,000 educational savings bond. |
High School Volleyball: History Made at Cherry Hill West in Olympic Volleyball Thursday, April 5, 2001 By John Daglian The 2001 Boys Volleyball just got underway on Monday April 2nd, but on April 5th the Cherry West Lions provided everyone with a bit of history by defeating the Cherry Hill East Cougars 4-15, 17-15 and 15-12. Prior to this match, Cherry Hill East had never lost to another Conference or South Jersey team. Since Volleyball began in 1994, the Cougars have been a powerhouse. They have always made it to the semi finals of the state tournament. The run includes a string of three consecutive state titles. |
