South Jersey Soccer: South Jersey Banshee's Open With A Win Over NJ Wildcats Saturday, May 5, 2001 By Forrest Robleto The Banshee's opened their first ever game with a three goal first half to defeat the New Jersey Wildcats 3-2 at Cherokee High School. The final result wasn't as close as the score reflected. The Banshees stayed in control until late in the game when a combination of injuries (mostly ankles) and resting the starters made the game competitive. The Wildcats came within one goal before the final whistle. |
High School Volleyball: Cherry Hill East Strikes Back Thursday, May 3, 2001 By John Daglian It was just over one month ago when the Cherry West Lions ended a 107 match winning streak that Cherry Hill East had over South Jersey Boys Volleyball teams. Last night the teams met at East for the 2nd time this season. The results would be different as East came out under control and in charge en-route to a straight set 15 - 12, 15 - 12 victory. East was led by Jason Mitchell who had a match high 14 kills and setter Alexis Alonzo who strung together 3 consecutive service aces to break a 9 - 9 tie in the first game. The Lions were led by their middle combination of Boris Smojver and Jordan Taormina who each had 10 kills. |

The Cherry West Boy's Volleyball team traveled to Township in an attempt to give them their first loss. Washington Township was up for the task and remained unbeaten with a 15 - 7, 15 - 9 straight set victory. The win clearly indicates that they are the team to beat in South Jersey this season. Township used a well balanced attack along with some tough serving to maintain control of the match from start to finish. |

Standing on the pitcher's mound with blue skies and warm temperatures, you're just anxious to get that first pitch over the plate. Well Shawnee's Dan Entwistle took full advantage of the situation as he held Highland to five scoreless innings in route to an 11-5 victory. Entwistle received plenty of support from his teammates as the Renegades jumped out to an 8-0 lead which was highlighted by Jeff Nichols 2-run homer. Nichols went 5 for 5 and also hit for the cycle (2 singles, double, triple and home run). |
High School Volleyball: Cherry Hill East Comes up Big Against Eastern Monday, April 30, 2001 By John Daglian The Cherry East Boys Volleyball team traveled to Voorhees on Monday April 30th to do battle with Eastern. This promised to be a very intense match as both teams are ranked in the top 15 of the state and along with Cherry Hill West and Washington Township are among the four best teams in the southern part of the state. The match did not disappoint as the first game alone took 45 minutes to complete. In the end, Cherry Hill East held off a tenacious Eastern comeback and took the match 15 - 10 and 15 - 7. |
