High School Softball:
Hammonton's Six Run Rally Upsets Audubon

The scorekeeper for the Hammonton softball finally got to fill in the diamonds indicating their team was scoring runs. Traveling to Audubon wasn't an easy task, as the Blue Devils were taking on the seconded seeded team in their South Jersey Group II quarterfinal game. Hammonton sent fourteen batters to the plate during their six run fifth inning explosion to break a close game open. Hammonton took advantage of several bases loaded walks that allowed them to move on to the semifinals with their 7-4 victory.

Sterling Loses Heartbreaker in Extra Innings

For seven full innings, the starting pitchers for Sterling and Point Pleasant Boro were in control of this game. It was the first round of the South Jersey Group 2 softball playoffs that featured the closely match eighth seeded Lady Knights from Sterling hosting the ninth seeded Point Pleasant Boro Panthers. Both Erin Boyle and Stephanie Skroski were keeping the opposing batters off the base and scoreboard. The final and decisive run occurred when Boyle took matters in her own hands...or bat. Her solo home run in the eighth inning gave Boro the rights to move on to the next round.

Timber Creek Upsets Highland In Opening Round

The South Jersey Group III baseball tournament began with two neighboring school competing against one another. It wasn’t much of a travel, but the Chargers from Timber Creek visited Highland High School to take on the Tartans baseball team. Highland had earned the fifth seed and was looking to advance to the next round against Williamstown. The Chargers took charge of this game scoring once in the first and twice in the third inning to score enough runs to advance. Mike Cummings picked up the win for Timber Creek, seeded twelfth, and earned the rights to play in the next round with their 6-2 win.

Shawnee Opens Group 4 Bracket By Holding Off Mustangs

It was that time of the baseball season when all of the previous regular season records are thrown out of the window. All of their efforts have paid off, as every team making the playoffs has to feel some since of satisfaction extending their season. On this day, the fifth seeded Shawnee Renegades were hosting the Mustangs from Triton High School. Sean Doolittle has his work cut out for him as he faced a Triton team looking to keep their winning streak in tack. The junior starting pitcher was able to keep the Mustangs in check when it counted to help Shawnee advance to the next round with their 6-4 victory.
