West Deptford Rolls Past Paulsboro

Friday, November 26, 2004

By Jerome Michaels
SJSports Special Correspondent

For so many years, Paulsboro has become the team that opposing teams want to be because of the past success the Red Raiders had. The winning dynasty that Paulsboro had create has somewhat ended, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t still winning. On this night at West Deptford, the Eagles proved they were the better team scoring at least a touchdown in every quarter against Paulsboro. West Deptford erased an early deficit and cruised easily to a 42-7 victory. Both teams still have at least one more game to play as they will compete in their separate group finals.

Thursday, November 25, 2004

By Jason Brown
SJSports Special Correspondent

It's always special when these two teams meet on the field, but it was something else that brought these two football teams from Gloucester together on Thanksgiving Day. The game was being played in honor of Marine Corporal Marc Ryan who was killed in action in Iraq. The former Gloucester player had his number 19 placed on the field for all to salute at the beginning of the game. When the opening whistle was blown to start this game, Gloucester Catholic broke open a close game during the third quarter and never looked back. The Rams from Gloucester Catholic cruised to a 40-14 victory.

Cherokee Balance Overwhelms Highland

Monday, November 22, 2004

By Mike Costantino

Nine different players scored as Cherokee rolled over Highland 10-0 in the South Jersey High School Ice Hockey League action at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday night. Cherokee scored six goals in the first period and never looked back and were led by Patrick McMahon with two goals and two assists, Dan Altieri and Angelo DiBatista added a goal and an assist. One can only wonder if the league will wake up and correct this unbalanced schedule. For example, the two games we saw last night would have been more competitive had they switched opponents.

Clearview Too Much for Holy Cross

Friday, November 22, 2004

By Mike Costantino
SJSports Staff Writer

Holy Cross was looking for its first win of the season, but Clearview had too much firepower as they defeated the Lancers 7-0 in action at Voorhees on Monday night. Seven different players scored for Clearview and Holy Cross could only manage 9 shots for the game, and just one in the final period. After Mike Sullivan and Andrew Michaels gave Clearview a 2-0 lead after one period, a four goal second period put the game out of reach. After Steve Short's laser-like blast just over the blue line caught the long side and put Clearview up 3-0 in the first minute of the second period, Clearview continued to put the pressure on Holy Cross.
