Barrage Move Closer To Playoffs With Rochester Win Sunday, July 10, 2005 By Erin Vosburgh The Philadelphia Barrage of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier outdoor lacrosse league, blew past the Rochester Rattlers Saturday night at Bishop Kearney High School in Irondequoit, NY with a score of 26-15. This marks the Barrage’s second win in a row as they were coming off a win over the Boston Cannons. The Barrage moved one step closer to the playoffs with their win over Rochester as they moved into fourth place in the league with a record of 3-4. The Baltimore Bayhawks (7-0) and Boston Cannons (6-1) have both clinched a playoff berth with their wins this weekend. Ryan Boyle (A) was named Bud Light MVP in Saturday’s game, recording a career high 10 points (5G,5A). |

Three Homers Not Enough In Thunder Loss Saturday, July 9, 2005 By Dan Loney Reading tagged Thunder starter Jeff Karstens for four runs in the 4th and 6th Innings en route to a 9-4 win over Trenton on Saturday night. The loss is the fifth straight on the road for the Thunder. Reading jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 2nd Inning on a solo homer by 1B Ryan Barthelemy, but Trenton responded in the top of the fourth with a solo homer by 1B Shelley Duncan, his league-leading 22nd of the year to tie the game at 1-1. |

Thunder Fall To Sea Dogs, 4-0 Thursday, July 7, 2005 By Dan Loney Portland scored single runs in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th Innings off Thunder starter Matt DeSalvo en route to a 4-0 win over the Thunder on Thursday afternoon. The loss drops Trenton back into 2nd Place in the Northern Division, one game behind the Sea Dogs. Portland took advantage of four Trenton errors in the game, as three of their runs were unearned. With two on in the 2nd Inning, an error by Thunder SS Ramiro Pena allowed Portland CF David Murphy to score. The 3rd Inning saw a pairs of walks lead to an RBI single by Murphy for a 2-0 lead. |

Surf Readys for 2005 North Fork Bank All-Star Game Thursday, July 7, 2005 By Denny Watson The Atlantic City Surf are readying Sandcastle Stadium to play host to the 2005 North Fork Bank Atlantic League All Star Game to be played on July 13, 2005. The Sandcastle will have a beach theme décor on the night of the game. Guests will be greeted by an Atlantic City Beach Patrol lifeguard stand and boat as they enter the Sandcastle and the entire stadium will be filled with beach-related items; including sand, salt water taffy and beach balls. |

Phantoms Re-Sign Riley Cote & Charlie Cook Thursday, July 7, 2005 By Al Cohen The 2005 Calder Cup champion Philadelphia Phantoms today announced that left wing Riley Cote and defenseman Charlie Cook have both been re-signed to one-year American Hockey League contracts. Per team policy, terms of the deals are not disclosed. Cote, 23, signed with the Phantoms just hours before the club's season opener on Oct. 16 and proceeded to compile a team-high 280 penalty minutes and 11 points (4G, 7A) in 61 games. He was named the Phantoms' Most Coachable Player following the season, and also received the Unsung Hero Award from the team's Phan Club. |

Walkoff Homer Give Thunder 7-6 Win Over Portland Wednesday, July 6, 2005 By Dan Loney Colin Porter hit a solo homer off Portland reliever Marc Deschenes in the bottom of the 9th Inning to give the Thunder a 7-6 win on Wednesday. The win moves Trenton back into a 1st Place tie with the Sea Dogs atop the Northern Division. The Thunder had a 4-1 lead after three innings, but saw the Sea Dogs rally with five unanswered runs to take a 6-4 lead. The early lead for Trenton was aided by 1B Shelley Duncan's 21st homer of the year, a two-run shot off Portland starter David Pauley in the third, that gave the Thunder their 4-1 lead. Portland got a run back off Trenton starter Grant Roberts in the 4th Inning and three more in the fifth on an RBI single by SS Hanley ramirez and a two-run homer from 2B Kenny Perez. |

Weekend Preview - Barons at Vermont Voltage Wednesday, July 6, 2005 By Paul O'Donnell On Sat, July 9, Ocean City will face the 4th place Vermont Voltage followed by the Sun, July 10 match against the 3rd place Ottawa Fury. Vermont has been stuck on 18pts having lost their last 3, two of them to a resurgent Albany. They will also face the Reading Rage on Friday night before the Barons come to town. Since their 4-0 win over Brooklyn the Voltage have had some difficulty finding the net scoring only 1 in two of those three losses and being shutout in the other at Rhode Island. |

Thunder Fall 5-0 to Sea Dogs, Back in 2nd Place Tuesday, July 5, 2005 By Dan Loney Jon Lester tossed seven shutout innings with a career-high 12 strikeouts as the Portland Sea Dogs beat Trenton, 5-0, on Tuesday night. The loss drops Trenton back into 2nd Place, one game behind the Sea Dogs. Both starters, Lester and Trenton's Charlie Isaacson, kept the offense at bay. Isaccson escaped early trouble to work six shutout innings on four hits with five walks and four strikeouts. Portland left ten runners on base against Isaacson. Lester, meanwhile, blanked Trenton over seven innings for the win. Lester (6-2) allowed five hits on the night with no walks and a career-high 12 strikeouts. |

Match Report - Ocean City Barons 2, Ottawa Fury 1 Monday, July 4, 2005 By Paul O'Donnell The Barons made their quick start and two early goals hold up Sunday night for a 2-1 win over the Ottawa Fury. Ocean City set the tone early when Ruben Mingo setup Byron Carmichael whose hard shot was well saved by Angus Wong in the 2nd minute. Then in the sixth a curling free kick from Tony Donatelli was superbly finished by a glancing header to the back post by Ryan Hiens and it was 1-0 Barons. In the 26th Donatelli put Carmichael in again and his drive made it 2-0 Barons. |

Thunder Back in 1st Place Tie with 9-3 Win Monday, July 4, 2005 By Dan Loney The Thunder jumped on Portland for five runs in the 1st inning en route to a 9-3 win on Monday night. The win moves Trenton back into a 1st Place tie with the Sea Dogs atop the Northern Division. The Thunder got a leadoff single from CF Colin Porter and he scored, along with Bronson Sardinha, on a two-run double by 1B Shelley Duncan. An RBI double by C Omir Santos made it a 3-0 game, followed by RBI singles by LF Eric Crozier and 2B J.T. Stotts. All of theose runs came off Portland starter Charlie Zink. Zink (5-2) allowed seven runs (six earned) in 4 2/3 innings in the loss. |
