Saturday, January 14, 2006

By Brian Smith

Manitoba Moose goaltender Wade Flaherty denied all 42 shots he faced to carry his team to a 2-0 win over the Philadelphia Phantoms at the MTS Centre on Saturday night. The Moose took a 1-0 lead at the 13:12 mark of the first period with a shorthanded tally. While killing a five-minute boarding major, Manitoba found itself entering the Phantoms zone on an odd-man rush. Tyler Bouck dropped a pass to Sven Butenschon, who beat Rejean Beauchemin through the five-hole.

Bordentown Continues To Push On

Friday, January 13, 2006

By Jason Brown

There are several obstacles that teams must overcome in order to improve on their accomplishments. The Scotties from Bordentown were participating in their fourth Burlington County League Patriot Division game of the season and Westampton Tech was the next team on their schedule. Bordentown would be looking to extend their winning streak to two games in a row after their loss to division leading Burlington City, a team that continues to stand in their way. The Scotties’ defense took control of this game but their offense would be the reason they won it. Three players finished in double figures as Bordentown posted an 82-38 win over the Panthers.

The Chiefs Come Together, But One Picks Up The Win

Monday, January 9, 2006

By Vincent Lewis
SJSports Staff Writer

Year after year, the SJHSIHL had some very competitive battles through out the season in order to determine which team would be the best in South Jersey. This year might be a bit different, but it's always interesting when two teams from the same school are scheduled to meet in the ice. When defending champs Cherokee 1 competed against Cherokee 2 at the Skate Zone in Voorhees, it appeared as if this game could have a different result than the first time these two teams met earlier in the season. Cherokee 2 would get the game's first goal on a power play, but Cherokee 1 would score four unanswered goals through the first and second periods to take a 4-1 lead. Cherokee 2 would come within a goal, but the end results would see Cherokee 1 holding onto a 6-4 win extending their unbeaten streak to 16 games.

Raptor of the Week: Wayne Smalls

Monday, January 9, 2006

By Mike Ballard
RutgersCamden Sports Correspondent

Rutgers-Camden freshman guard Wayne Smalls earns his first Raptor of the Week honor after averaging 21.5 points in a pair of games last week and going 15-for-15 from the foul line. He scored 28 of his team-high 31 points in the second half in a loss to Montclair State Jan. 4 as he finished two points shy of his career high. He was 8-for-8 from the foul line in that game and then went 7-for-7 from the line in a loss to Widener Jan. 7. Coupled with his 6-for-6 from the line against Worcester State (Dec. 29), he has hit 21 straight free throws since missing his last attempt against Colorado College (Dec. 28). His 21 straight foul shots ties for second on the program’s list of longest streaks. He is three shy of the school mark of 24 straight by Bill Bramble in 1966.
