450 Turn Out For Ocean Drive Marathon

The eighth annual Ocean Drive Marathon took place on Sunday, March 26th. This 26.2-mile event starts in Cape May, covers the entire length of the boardwalk through Wildwood Crest, Wildwood, and North Wildwood, continues through picturesque oceanfront streets of Stone Harbor and Avalon, and ends on the Promenade in Sea Isle City. This year's winner was Chuck Engle of Jackson, MS in a time of 2:43:32. He was followed by Jeff Propert (2:53:00), Rudy Afanador (2:58:08), Eric Scheffler (2:58:29), and Keith Custer (2:59:14). Amazingly, this was Chuck Engle's twelfth marathon completed so far in 2006. He has eight victories and four second place finishes in those twelve marathons. Chuck has a goal of completing 50 marathons this year.

Phantoms Top Portland 4-1

Tony Voce had a hand in every goal as the Philadelphia Phantoms beat the Portland Pirates on Sunday night at the Wachovia Spectrum, 4-1. The Philadelphia native assisted on the first two markers and then scored two power play goals of his own for the four- point night. The Phantoms bagged their first of four power play goals just 1:28 into the match. Jim Campbell was parked to the left of flopping goaltender Jani Hurme and shelved a rebound. The goal was the fastest of the season to open a game for Philadelphia, eclipsing Voce's opening salvo just two nights earlier.

Schlichtig's Perfect Game Keys Raptor Sweep Over Keystone

Senior pitcher Michelle Schlichtig hurled a perfect game in the opener and the Rutgers University-Camden softball team opened its home season with a pair of five-inning shutouts in a non-conference sweep over Keystone College here March 25. The Lady Raptors, ranked No. 9 in the pre-season National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III poll, won the opener, 14-0, as Schlichtig struck out 13 in the first perfect game of her Rutgers-Camden career. In the nightcap, three Raptor pitchers combined on a one-hitter in an 18-0 victory. Rutgers-Camden improves its record to 12-4, while Keystone falls to 0-9.

Philadelphia Falls in Afternoon Matchup Arizona Defeats Wings, 13-12

The Wings couldn't hold up to Arizona's pressure in a 13-12 loss Saturday at the Wachovia Center in front of 11,693 fans. Philadelphia led after one quarter, but Arizona adjusted to handle the Wings' offense and held the lead for most of the remainder of the game. Craig Conn led the Sting with three goals and Dan Dawson added a goal and six assists. Dan Marohl led the Wings with two goals and two assists.

Ruzicka Pots Power Play Pair in Win

The Philadelphia Phantoms employed a surging power play to beat the Albany River Rats 5-2 last night at the Wachovia Spectrum. Rookie Stefan Ruzicka bagged both man advantage goals as the Phantoms scored on the PP for the fifth straight game. Tony Voce, the Phantoms leading power play goal getter coming into the contest, staked the Phantoms to a 1-0 lead. Just 1:35 in, the Philly native wristed the first professional shot on Albany goalie Josh Disher. The backstop extended his left arm and redirected the puck into his own net for Voce's 19th.

SJHSIHL Announces Annual Awards

Each year the South Jersey High School Ice Hockey League selects players from the league that stand out among all others. In Tier 1 the Glen Holland Award is given annually to the leagues outstanding goaltender, this year the award went to Joseph Scafisi, from Washington Township, his 0.33 goals against average led the league, and Joe was huge in the playoffs and a major factor in Township winning the championship.

Neil Little Selected to Phantoms Hall of Fame

Philadelphia Phantoms COO Frank Miceli announced today that goaltender Neil Little, an original member of the Phantoms who played for the franchise in eight of its first nine years, has been named as the third member of the Philadelphia Phantoms Hall of Fame. Little will be inducted in a pre-game ceremony on Friday, April 7 when the Phantoms host the Hershey Bears at 7:05 at the Wachovia Spectrum.

Raptor of the Week: Michelle Schlichtig

Senior pitcher/second baseman Michelle Schlichtig had a hot bat at the Sun West Tournament in Orange, California. Facing some of the top teams in the country, Schlichtig hit .469 (15-for-32) with 11 runs, 15 RBIs, four doubles and four home runs. She drew six walks and was successful on her lone stolen base attempt. She hit safely in nine of the Lady Raptors' 10 games, including the last eight. She also went 3-2 on the mound with 38 strikeouts in 31-2/3 innings.
