Surf Down Barnstormers Behind Offense

The Atlantic City Surf defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 9-3 before 4790 at Bernie Robbins Stadium Friday night. It was the second straight victory for Atlantic City, 8-12, in the second half. Lancaster fell to 11-8 in the second half. Raul Marval had a huge night for Atlantic City, as the steady shortstop went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and his 11th home run. Ozzie Timmons also homered for Atlantic City as his bat seems to be as hot as the weather. Joe Jiannetti was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Atlantic City.

Cano Helps Thunder To 5-2 Win

N.Y. Yankees 2B Robinson Cano, on a rehab assignment, collected three hits and a RBI as the Thunder beat Bowie, 4-2, on Friday night. The former Thunder star was playing in his 1st game with the Thunder in two years. Cano, rehabbing a hamstring injury, gave Trenton a 2-0 lead in the 2nd Inning as he singled home LF Matt Carson. 1B Randy Ruiz followed with a two-run homer off Bowie starter Beau Hale for a 4-0 lead. It was Ruiz's 18th homer of the season. Hale (2-3) allowed four runs in six innings for the loss. Cano had two singles, a double and a walk as he reached base in all four plate appearances in the game. He left the game for a pinch-runner in the 7th Inning after his double.

Surf Hold Off Bears in 7-6 Victory

The Atlantic City Surf clubbed four home runs and then held off another Newark rally to defeat the Bears 7-6 at torrid Bernie Robbins Stadium Thursday. The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for Atlantic City, which is now 7-12 in the second half and 40-42 overall. Newark is 10-8 and 31-50 overall. Newly-acquired Dario Delgado broke a deadlock at three with a solo homerun for Atlantic City in the sixth inning and then Melvin Rosario added a two-run shot off Newark starter and loser Joe Gannon, 5-5.

Childers Shut Down Reading in 4-2 Win

Matt Childers allowed one run over seven innings to earn his 1st Trenton win as the Thunder beat Reading, 4-2, on Thursday night. The win keeps the Thunder in 2nd Place, 1/2 game behind the Binghamton Mets. Trenton (59-51), now in sole possession of 2nd Place after a Portland loss, took a 1-0 lead in the 3rd Inning. 3B Grant Plumley led off the inning with a double against Reading starter J.A. Happ. After a strikeout, 2B Gabe Lopez singled to left field and plated Plumley for a 1-0 lead. Reading (54-55) came back to tie the game in the 4th Inning on a Gary Burnham solo homer. But that was the only run allowed by Childers (1-1) on the night. He scattered five hits with two walks and six strikeouts for the win.

Working with high school athletes, you can sometimes get caught up in all of the hype that goes along it, and one of the things I think that is being “hyped” is “Speed kills”. Speed is a wonderful tool, it does kill, I get it, but what if you aren’t fast, then what can you do? Well if this is the case, then you may want to check out how to improve your agility. To many coaches around the country, agility practically defines ability in most sports. What is agility? It has been defined as having the ability to recognize, react, accelerate, change direction and stop quickly. Which is a definition I can work with; having the ability to perform all of these skills truly put you at an advantage when it comes to competing in most sports.
