Five Goal Second Period Leads Cherokee through the Creek

Matt Maugeri scored twice and assisted on two more as Cherokee swarmed Timber Creek 9-0 at Hollydell on Friday night. Kevin McMahon added two goals and Frank Garvey had a goal and three assists. Maugeri scored the only goal of the first period as Garvey found him all alone in front. Cherokee broke the game open scoring five goals in the first six minutes of the period. Ryan Thompson made it 2-0 early in the second period and Kyle Kovervas added a goal forty seconds later for a 3-0 advantage, scoring on a breakaway.

Larkin Tricks Eastern as Williamstown Rolls

Tim Larkin netted a hat trick and Williamstown survived a slow start and defeated Eastern 4-1 in front of a sparse crowd at Hollydell. Eastern goalie Evan Cohen played a sparkling first period stopping all 16 shots and Eastern took a 1-0 lead in the second period as Derrick Schemmel deflected a shot from the point. Larkin tied the game just over a minute later and Josh Haynes put Williamstown ahead with a top shelf goal later in the period And thirty seconds later Justin Osterdahl sent in Larkin for a 3-1 lead. Larkin completed his hat trick early in the third period, again on a feed from Osterdahl and Williamstown skated away with a 4-1 victory.

Basketball Spotlight:
Wildcats Defeat Devils in Conference Opener

The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's basketball team opened Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play tonight, dropping a hard-fought contest to Wilmington College, 65-58 in New Castle, Delaware. The loss drops the Devils record to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in league play. Wilmington college improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in league play. Erin Chesnavich paced the Devils with 14 points. Allison Weiss added 12 points while pulling down 11 rebounds. Shelby Rance and Lori Sedina chipped in nine and eight points respectively. Sedina also pulled down seven points while dishing out a team high seven assists. All of Chesnavich's points came in the first half as an ankle injury forced her to the bench for the final 20 minutes of action.
