Phantoms Push Past Penguins Saturday, February 17, 2007 By Brian Smith Martin Houle turned away 35 of 36 Wilkes-Barre/Scranton shots as the Philadelphia Phantoms took a 3-1 win over the Penguins on Saturday night. Niko Dimitrakos, Stefan Ruzicka and Darren Reid all scored for the Phantoms, who extended their power play streak to 10 consecutive games with at least one man-advantage goal. Dimitrakos started the scoring early in the game, firing home a shot from the slot during a delayed penalty call against the Penguins. The 1-0 lead stood from the 6:15 mark of the first period all the way through the second intermission. |

Bandits Steal Wings' Winning Streak Saturday, February 17, 2007 By Jennifer Stefani The Wings ended a four-game winning streak with a 12-8 loss to the Buffalo Bandits Saturday at the Wachovia Center in front of 12,688 fans. Buffalo took the lead in the first minute of play and never looked back. Goalie Steve Dietrich led the Bandits with 49 saves. John Tavares recorded a hat trick for Buffalo. Kyle Wailes led the Wings with three goals and an assist. "We started out slow, maybe feeling too good about ourselves from our previous wins," said Wings' General Manager and Head Coach Lindsay Sanderson. "Buffalo jumped on us and got ahead. They took care of business when they had too and we had a lot of missed opportunities." |

KiXX Stay in First Place after Overtime Stunner, 18-16 Saturday, February 17, 2007 By Tom Hushen The Philadelphia KiXX (12-7) came back from a six-point deficit with under two minutes remaining to stay atop the MISL standings by a full game. Don D'Ambra buried four goals, including the game tying goal in regulation with just one second remaining. Sandre Naumoski also added a hat trick, scoring two of his goals in the final 1:58. Rookie Tony Donatelli sealed the deal for the KiXX in the comeback of the season, 18-16 in overtime. Vincente Figueroa began the scoring for California with his team-leading 18th goal of the season, assist from Aaron Susi. Craig Scheer, who was listed as doubtful coming into the contest with a knee injury, put the Cougars up 4-0 on his fifth of the season from Nelson Santana. Philly player/coach and leading scorer Don D'Ambra put the KiXX on the board with his 18th goal of the season, an unassisted two-pointer. |

Rookie's Shootout Goals Give Phantoms 2-1 Win Friday, February 16, 2007 By Brian Smith Ryan Potulny scored in the first round and the sixth round of a shootout to lift the Philadelphia Phantoms to a 2-1 shootout win over the Portland Pirates in front of 7,041 on Friday night at the Wachovia Spectrum. Niko Dimitrakos scored in regulation for the Phantoms and Scott Munroe returned from injury to make 29 of 30 saves in regulation and four of six in the shootout. After nearly 28 minutes of scoreless hockey, Dimitrakos finally broke the deadlock when he took a pass from a falling Matt Ellison in the left circle and snapped a wrist shot past Sebastien Caron at 7:28 of the second period. The power play tally gave the Phantoms a 1-0 lead. It also extended their power play goal scoring streak to nine games, while Ellison's personal point streak clicked to six games with the helper. |

Second Consecutive Appearance for Devils in Northeast Region Women's Basketball Poll Thursday, February 15, 2007 By Bob Heller The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia is ranked in the NCAA Division II Northeast Region Women's Basketball Poll for the second consecutive week. The Devils are ranked tenth in this week's poll, the same position as last week. USP entered the poll for the first time this season last week. As of the start of this week, the Devils had a 15-8 record against Division II opponents and a 13-7 record against Division II opponents within the region. |
![]() Scafisi Stands Tall in Defeating Cherokee Monday, February 12, 2007 By Mike Costantino Joe Scafisi stopped thirty eight shots as Washington Township opened defense of its league title with a 4-2 win over Cherokee. After being off for two weeks, Township started out slow in the first period only managing four shots, Cherokee controlled the play for most of the period, taking the body and shadowing talented playmaker Colin Davis. The second period was a different story as Davis had a hand in Townships' three goals in the first five minutes. Christian Fleagle put Township up 1-0 with Davis and Jared Emmet getting the assists. Moments later the same three hooked up again this time Emmet getting the goal. |
![]() Shawnee Starts Slow, Finishes Strong in Win over Williamstown Monday, February 12, 2007 By Mike Costantino It's been almost two weeks since Shawnee played and Williamstown took early advantage jumping out to a 2-0 lead, but Shawnee roared back for a 6-3 win. Brian Ruskowski led Shawnee with a goal and three assists and Ryan Welsey added two goals and an assist. With the win Shawnee will play Township on Monday night February 26th, with the winner having a huge advantage in the double elimination tournament. Williamstown wasted little time as they scored two goals in the games first two minutes as Dennis Cunard and Tim Larkin got things rolling for the Braves. |
High School Ice Hockey:
Clearview Rally Keeps Season Alive Monday, February 12, 2007 By Mike Costantino Facing elimination and an end to their season, Clearview rallied from a 3-0 first period deficit and defeated Rancocas Valley 4-3 at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Goals by Kevin Lion, Shane Veight and Kyle Smith in a span of two minutes gave Rancocas the lead at 3-0 midway through then first period. Clearview would chip away at the lead; first Timmy Sullivan scored a power play goal with the assist going to Shaun Stamm. Moments later those two would assist on Chris McGoldrick's goal to cut the lead to 3-2 after two periods. |
