Atlantic City Surf Director of Media Relations

The Atlantic City Surf (4-4) loss for the second straight day to the Bridgeport Bluefish (3-5) on Saturday afternoon at The Sandcastle, 9-2. The Bluefish, already up 2-0, put the game out of reach with a seven run seventh inning in which they sent ten men the plate.

The big blast in the seventh was provided by Bridgeport leftfielder, Jamie Gann. He connected for a three-run homerun, his first hit of the season. Second baseman Asbel Ortiz, first baseman DJ Boston, and centerfield Rolo Avila all had two hits on the day and an RBI apiece. The lone RBI for the Surf was provided by first baseman Dario Delgado, who connected for a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth. It was his fourth home run of the season.

Bluefish starter Langen (1-0) pitched six innings, striking out five and allowing three hits for the win. Surf starter Andy Zwirchitz (0-1) pitched well, only giving up one run in five innings but still suffered the loss. He walked four, gave up three hits, and struck out five. Reliever Greg McCarthy gave up the big inning. He allowed eight runs and seven hits in only two innings of work.

The teams meet again tomorrow at The Sandcastle for the series finale for “Splash’s Irish Bash.” Game time is scheduled for 1:35 PM. The Bluefish will send Brad Cornett (0-2) to the hill against Surf starter Andy High (1-0).
