By Chuck Betson
Atlantic City Surf Director of Media Relations

Nashua Pride catcher Pascual Matos connected for a two-run home run off of closer Conor Brooks to lift the Pride over the Atlantic City Surf at Sandcastle Stadium on Saturday night, 8-6. The Surf came back from a five run deficit to tie the score at six before falling in the tenth.

Matos had four hits while Glenn Murray and Henry Rodriguez also went yard for the Pride. Starter Nate Teut went five and two-thirds, allowing four runs on seven hits. Justin Sparks picked up the win after pitching a scoreless inning and a third in relief. Surf starter Andy Zwirchitz gave up six runs, five earned, on nine hits in his brief four and two-thirds outing. Brooks took the loss. Al Benjamin collected four hits against his former team and Ozzie Timmons and Wil Quintana hit the long ball for the Surf. Timmons’ home run was his league leading twenty-first.

The teams square off again tomorrow afternoon beginning at 1:35pm at the Sandcastle. After the game kids run the bases courtesy of Conectiv and the Philadelphia 76er’s cheerleaders will be on hand to assist in the inaugural Surf Charities Carnival. Players will stick around for photos and autographs and coaches will make a splash in the dunk tank. There will be great items raffled off including baseballs autographed by future Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson, former Philadelphia Phillies closer Mitch “Wild Thing” Williams, 1952 American League MVP Bobby Shantz, and much more.
