South Jersey Baseball:
Late Inning Fireworks is Enough for Surf Win

Friday, August 13, 2004

By Chuck Betson
Atlantic City Surf Director of Media Relations

The Atlantic City Surf scored seven runs in the seventh and eighth to break up the pitchers duel and lift the Surf over the Bridgeport Bluefish, 9-6 on Friday night at Sandcastle Stadium. With the game tied at two, the Surf took advantage of Bluefish starter Blake William’s ejection, the third Bridgeport player to be thrown out of the game, to score four runs in the seventh.

Anthony Chavez started for the Surf and went seven innings to even his record at four. He allowed just two runs on ten hits. Gary Johnson led the team offensively with two hits and four RBI, including the three he drove in with his fourth homerun. Second baseman David Housel had two hits and drove in three runs while scoring twice.

Williams went six and a third before being tossed arguing balls and strikes. He suffered his sixth loss after allowing three runs on five hits. D.J. Boston had three hits and drove in two runs and Oreste Marrero hit a three run shot in the ninth.

The teams will meet again on Saturday night at the Sandcastle. Game time is scheduled for 6:35pm. The Surf will throw Mark Brownson (2-4) against the Tim Cain (11-2).
