The Camden Riversharks announced today that five members of the team have been selected to participate in the 2002 North Fork bank All-Star Game to be held in Long Island on July 10.
Named to the team were catcher Alex Delgado, outfielder Dwight Maness, and pitchers Lincoln Mikkelsen and Jimmy "Slim" Williams. Delgado was named as the starting catcher for the Atlantic League South All-Stars while Maness was picked as a reserve. The starting pitchers have not yet been named.
Also honored with an All-Star selection is Riversharks trainer Phil Vande Berg who will handle the duties of the South Squad.
Delgado got of to a very rough start this season but has made a tremendous turnaround to get to this point, commented General Manager John Brandt. The way that he has improved his offensive game while continuing to do great work with our pitching staff us something that he should be very proud of and this honor is well deserved.
Mikkelsen and Williams have been the anchors to a pitching staff that has consistently been the op staff in the Atlantic League. Mikkelsen has seven wins including a month of June where he went 5-0 with 26 strikeouts and one walk. Williams has been the closer for the Riversharks picking up 12 saves without allowing an earned run all season.
It is great to be so well represented with these outstanding players, Brandt said. These players have represented us great all season and I know that they will do the same at the All-Star game.
