South Jersey Baseball:
Riversharks Filet Bluefish, 16-7

Tuesday, August 10, 2004

By Don Delaney
Camden Riversharks Media Relations Manager

It must have been the day off. The Camden Riversharks brought their offense following their first day off in 24 days as they used a 10-run third inning on their way to a 16-7 rout of the Bridgeport Bluefish at Campbell’s Field on Tuesday night.

Already leading 3-1 heading into the home half of the third inning, the Riversharks had their first nine batters reach base as they broke the game wide open. Camden catcher Chris Widger capped the double-digit inning with a two-run home run, his third of the year, to dead centerfield.

It was the first of two home runs on the night for Widger as he went 4-for-6 with two homers and five RBI. Widger, who also generated a run when he grounded into a 4-6-3 doubleplay in the sixth inning, entered the game with six RBI on the year.

Third baseman Troy Cameron was just as effective at the plate for the Riversharks as he went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and reached base five times.

Lincoln Mikkelsen won for the sixth time as he allowed two earned runs in seven innings of work.

Stevenson Agosto, who entered the game with the eighth best ERA in the Atlantic League, allowed eight hits, five walks and nine runs in just over two innings of work to fall to 3-5 on the year.

Agosto was not the only Bridgeport pitcher that the Riversharks belted around. Reliever Brad Cornett took his share of the punishment as well as he surrendered seven hits and five runs in two innings of work.

The 16 runs and 22 hits were both season highs for the Riversharks, who have now won two games in a row.

The Riversharks and Bluefish will return to the field on Wednesday night when Ben Simon takes the hill against Kevin Henthorne. There will be fireworks after the game for all fans in attendance. Tickets are available for all Riversharks home games and can be purchased by calling (856) 963-2600, on the web at www.riversharks.com or by visiting the Campbell’s Field ticket office during normal business hours.
