South Jersey Baseball: Friday, September 3, 2004 By Don Delaney With their ace on the mound, the Camden Riversharks scored six runs in the first four innings on their way to a 7-3 victory over the Somerset Patriots on Friday night at Campbell’s Field. For the second straight night the Riversharks were able to score four runs in the bottom of the first inning, but this they were not forced to eliminate a five-run deficit. The Riversharks sent nine batters to the plate as second baseman Troy Cameron provided the big hit of the inning with a three-run double into the left field corner. Ryan Jones pushed the advantage to 6-0 when he ripped a two-run double inside the third base bag in the bottom of the fourth inning. The runs would be more than enough for Lincoln Mikkelsen, would recorded his 10th victory of the season as he allowed two earned runs in seven innings of work. The Patriots would have their chances against Mikkelsen, however, as they collected 13 hits -12 singles – and had legitimate scoring chances in the second and third innings. They did get three runs across in his final two innings on the mound. The Patriots final chance to catch the Riversharks came when they put two men on with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, but closer Joe Strong came in to preserve the win and earn his 10th save of the year. Qunicy Foster and Troy Cameron each finished the game with three hits apiece for the Riversharks. Second baseman Emiliano Escandon also collected three hits for the Patriots to lead the offense. The Riversharks will now travel to Bridgeport, Conn. to take on the North leading Bridgeport Bluefish in a three-game series. Camden will send left hander Jaime Steward to the hill in the opener at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
