Sardinha Collects Three Hits, HR in 6-4 Loss

Akron broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the 7th Inning and two in the 8th Inning en route to a 6-4 win over the Thunder on Friday.

Akron (54-43) jumped out to a 3-0 lead against Thunder starter Charlie Isaacson. A double by Franklin Gutierrez and a triple by Eider Torres produced the first run in the 3rd Inning. The Aeros added two runs in the 4th Inning on three singles and an error by Thunder 2B Gabe Lopez.

Trenton (51-47) came back to tie the game at 3-3 in the sixth off Aeros starter Jeremy Sowers. C Omir Santos doubled home SS J.T. Stotts and Lopez. 3B Yobal Duenas followed with an RBI single. Sowers allowed three runs on eight hits in 6 2/3 innings. The Aeros got the lead back in the seventh thanks to a two-hit hit by LF Ben Francisco, a stolen base and a single by 3B Pat Osborn. Isaacson (6-4) allowed four runs (three earned) on ten hits in seven innings in the loss.

Akron added two runs in the 8th Inning on hits by SS Ivan Ochoa and 2B Eider Torres. Akron reliever Brian Slocum (6-5) worked a scoreless inning to get the win. Edward Mujica came on the get the final out in the eighth and work the 9th Inning for his 5th save. The Thunder did get a solo homer from RF Bronson Sardinha in the ninth, but Lopez and Santos flied out as the potential tying runs to end the game.

The Thunder remain in a 1st Place tie because of a New Hampshire loss to Portland, but the Sea Dogs move to within 1/2 game of both Trenton and the Fisher Cats.

The second game of the series is Saturday at 7:05 PM. Matt DeSalvo (6-3, 3.24) starts for the Thunder against Akron's Dan Denham (8-6, 3.33).
