Thunder Rally For 6-5 Win in Akron

Matt Carson launched a solo homer off Victor Kleine in the 10th Inning to help the Thunder rally for a 6-5 win over Akron on Sunday. The win keeps Trenton just 1/2 game behind Portland for 1st Place in the Northern Division.

Trenton (51-49) trailed 4-2 into the 9th Inning, but got singles from LF Michael Coleman and DH Gabe Lopez against Akron closer Edward Mujica. Sardinha followed with his blast for a 5-4 lead. But Akron came back in the bottom half of the inning off Thunder closer Justin Pope. PH Eider Torres walked to start the inning and scored on a two-out single by 3B Pat Osborn to tie the game at 5-5.

Carson came up with one out in the 10th Inning and homered to left field off Kleine for a 6-5 lead. it was Carson's first homer since being called up to Trenton. Pope (4-3) then retired the side in order in the bottom of the tenth to preserve the win.

Trenton took a 1-0 lead in the 3rd Inning against Akron starter Jake Dittler. Sardinha singled and stole 2nd Base with one out. He scored on a single by 3B Eric Duncan. Akron (56-43) tied the game against Thunder starter Steven White in the bottom of the third with the first homer by Van Every. A two-run homer from Ryan Mulhern in the 4th Inning put the Aeros ahead, 3-2. Van Every followed with his 2nd homer of the game for a 4-2 lead. White (0-3) allowed four runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings.

The Thunder begin a seven-game homestand on Monday against Erie. Game time is 7:05 PM. Ramon Ramirez (5-5, 4.01) starts for Trenton against Erie's Jeremy Johnson (8-5, 4.43).
