By Dan Loney
Trenton Thunder Director of Broadcasting

(Reading, PA)- Reading took advantage of four Thunder errors to score six unearned runs in an 8-1 win over Trenton on Tuesday. The loss, combined with a New Hampshire win, puts Trenton and the Fisher Cats in a 2nd Place tie for the "wild card" in the Northern Division.

Michael Bourn started the bottom of the 1st Inning by reaching on a Shelley Duncan error and later scored on a ground out. Both runs for Reading (61-62) in the 1st Inning scored on ground outs against Thunder starter Calvin Maduro and were unearned. Then the Phillies scored five times in the 2nd Inning thanks to a solo homer by 1B Juan Richardson, an RBI single by LF Ryan Fleming and a two-run triple by RF Chris Roberson.

Maduro (1-1), was charged with seven runs (two earned) and six hits in two innings. He walked one and struck out one. Meanwhile, Reading starter Mike Smith (4-12) scattered five hits over six innings for the win, the first in his last seven starts. He walked two and struck out six.

The Thunder (61-61) got a good evening from RF Bronson Sardinha, who had three hits and an RBI. DH Michael Coleman added an 8th Inning solo home run.

Trenton and Reading continue their series on Wednesday at 7:05 PM. Jeff Karstens (10-10, 4.17) starts for the Thunder against the Phillies' Allen Davis (10-7, 3.85).
