(Trenton, NJ) - Vince Faison delivered a pinch-hit two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth that helped the Trenton Thunder to a 7-4 win over Reading on Monday night. The win was the fifth straight for the Thunder.

Trenton (8-14) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings. RF Bronson Sardinha hit a 1st Inning solo homer off Reading starter Daniel Haigwood for the early lead. An RBI double by 2B Gabe Lopez (2nd Inning) and an RBI triple by 3B Kevin Howard (3rd Inning) helped Trenton to that four run lead. Haigwood got a no-decision allowing four runs (three earned) in five innings. He walked one and struck out seven.

Reading (9-13) came back to tie the game with two runs off Thunder starter Danny Borrell in the 5th Inning and two more in the 7th Inning. 2B Tim Moss delivered the runs in the fifth on an RBI single. A Bryan Hansen RBI double and a groundout by Moss scored the tying runs. Borrell also got a no-decision with four runs (three earned) allowed in six innings.

The Thunder took the lead for good in the 8th Inning. 3B Kevin Howard started the inning with a walk against Reading's Luke Lockwood. Two batters later, Faison ripped a 1st pitch fastball off Nick Mattioni over the right field wall for the lead. It was Faison's 2nd home run of the year. Trenton later added insurance with an RBI single by Sardinha for a 7-4 lead. Lockwood (0-2) took the loss allowing one run in two innings pitched.

Thunder reliever T.J. Beam got the win. Beam (2-0) tossed three shutout innings of relief with no walks and two strikeouts.

The series continues at 11:05 AM on Tuesday. Steven White (1-0, 1.53) starts for Trenton against Reading's Gio Gonzalez (1-1, 1.48).
