College Volleyball: Mellon lifts DeSales Volleyball Team to Sweep at Rutgers-Camden Tuesday, October 24, 2006 By Mike Ballard RutgersCamden Sports Correspondent CAMDEN - Freshman outside hitter Jen Mellon (Media, PA/Penncrest) collected 11 kills, 12 assists, three service aces and seven digs to lead the DeSales University women's volleyball team to a three-game sweep over Rutgers University-Camden in a non-conference match here Tuesday. DeSales won by scores of 30-17, 31-29 and 30-24. The Bulldogs improve to 10-19, snapping a three-match losing streak. Rutgers-Camden closes its season with a 6-17 record. DeSales also received 15 assists, two aces and five digs from junior Gia Zimmerman (Blandon, PA/Reading Central Catholic), while sophomore Rachel Koury (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) notched 10 digs. Juniors Molly Motley (Hatfield, PA/Lansdale Catholic) and Allie Boyer (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) collected seven and six kills, respectively. For the Lady Raptors, freshman Marci Polite (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) collected 16 kills, one ace, 12 digs and five solo blocks, while junior Julie Grochowski (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) notched 21 digs, two blocks, 18 assists and five kills. Freshmen Heather Pohorely (Lebanon, NJ/Hunterdon Central), Natalie Powell (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and Deanne Linen (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) each had three kills. Powell added seven assists and 19 digs, while Pohorely had four aces, 15 digs and one assist. Linen added two digs. Sophomore Nikki Cosico (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) had 28 digs, two aces and one kill and sophomore Kathleen Dreitlein (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) added three solo blocks.
