The USP women's softball team recorded a doubleheader sweep against a CACC opponent for the first time since the 2002 season on Saturday, defeating Nyack College 9-1 and 10-4 at McNeill Field.

In the opener, the Devils scored eight times in the fourth inning, breaking a 1-1 tie to take the huge lead. Consecutive doubles by Samantha Lavooy (Fr., Vernon Twp. HS/Sussex, NJ) and Michelle Stringer (Fr., Cumberland Valley HS/Camp Hill, PA) led to the first run of the inning. Ashley Schappell (Fr., Parkland HS/ Schnecksville, PA) singled to score Stringer and Katie Campoli (So., Mishawaka HS/Mishawaka, IN) reached first on a fielders choice before Miranda Plastridge (Jr., Harwood Union HS/Waterbury, VT) singled to score Schappell. Sarina Lavooy (Fr., Vernon Twp. HS/Sussex, NJ) delivered a one-out single to load the bases and Tracy Worman (Fr., Whitehall HS/Whitehall, PA) walked to bring in Campoli with the fourth run of the inning. Megan Trimble (Fr., Coatesville Area HS/Coatesville, PA) then delivered the big blow of the inning, a grand slam home run over the left field fence. It was Trimble's fifth home run and second grand slam of the week, giving her a school record 12 home runs on the season. Trimble's blast put the Devils up 9-1 as the game ended one inning later due to the eight-run mercy rule, giving USP their second conference win of the season.

Campoli (3-8) got the win for the Devils.

USP produced another eight run inning in the nightcap. Trailing 3-2 in the sixth, the Devils sent 13 batters to the plate, banging out six hits and scoring eight times to take a 10-3 lead. Worman singled to start the inning and scored following Trimble's triple to left-center field, tying the game at 3-3. Trimble scored the go-ahead run as Samantha Lavooy singled. Stringer reached on an error and Schappell delivered an rbi-double to score Samantha Lavooy. Lauren Schmucker (So., Cardinal O'Hara HS/Glenolden, PA) then reached on an error as Stringer scored and Amy Nguyen (Fr., Montgomery Blair HS/Silver Spring, MD), running for Schappell reached third. Nguyen and Schmucker then put on a base running clinic, with Schmucker stealing second and Nguyen forcing a bad throw by the Nyack pitcher allowing her to score, giving the Devils five runs in the inning and still nobody out. After Nyack finally got a Devil out, Chrissy Stirrat (Sr., Canton HS/Canton, PA) delivered a single to score Schmucker. Sarina Lavooy followed with a single and Worman, batting for the second time in the inning, reached on an error, loading the bases. Stirrat was forced out at home for the second out but the Devils scored two more runs on a costly infield error by the Purple Pride to take a 10-3 lead.

Nyack added one more run in the seventh to make the final score 10-4, as Laura Flint (Fr., Interlake HS/Duvall, WA) picked up her fourth win of the season.

USP is now 9-12 overall and 3-6 in CACC games.
