The USP men's baseball team's season came to a close yesterday as the Devils dropped a pair of games to the ever-tough Dominican College Chargers, 13-5 and 7-5 to close out the season at 10-29.

The Chargers rocked Devils starter Chip Wukitsch (Fr., Allentown Central Catholic/Slatington, PA) for eight runs in the first three innings as Dominican opened up an 8-2 lead. Five of those runs came off the bat of Dominican's Joe DiMicelli who hit a two-run home run in the second and a three-run shot in the third.

The Devils scored solo runs in the first and added another in the second. Corey Hider (So., Lake Charles-Boston HS/Lake Charles, LA) walked, stole second and later scored on Eric Woerheide's (So., Oak Forest HS/ Midlothian, IL) single in the first while Michael DeVincenzo (Fr., Bishop Hoban HS/Plains, PA) tripled to lead off the second and came around on Ronny Sanchez' (So., St. Peter's Prep HS/Union City, NJ) single, making the score 3-2 at the time.

After the Dominican barrage in the third, Wukitsch pitched 1-2-3 innings in the fourth and fifth. In the bottom of the fifth, the Devils cut their deficit in half as Doug Smith (Jr., Middletown HS/ Middletown, PA) delivered a two-out single to score Woerheide and Justin DeVincenzo(Fr., Bishop Hoban HS/Plains, PA), making the score 8-4.

Wukitsch pitched to two batters in the sixth giving up a double and walk to put runners at first and second. An error by Hider moved the runners up and loaded the bases. The next Chargers batter delivered a single to score two more runs and make the score 10-4. USP got one back in the bottom of the sixth as Matt Batko (Fr., Mark T. Sheehan HS/Wallingford, CT) singled and later scored, advancing via two errors and a wild pitch, pulling the Devils within five 10-5.

The Chargers added three more in the seventh to make the final score 13-5.

The Devils held a 2-1 lead in the nightcap before giving up five runs in the fourth inning and another in the fifth to fall behind 7-2. USP got two runs back in the fifth on RBI singles by Gaise Lacek (So., Lake-Lehman HS/Harveys Lake, PA) and Smith and their final run in the sixth on an RBI single by Woerheide, making the final score 7-5.

USP finishes their season at 10-29 overall and 2-14 in CACC games.
