University of the Sciences in Philadelphia Women’s Basketball player Leah Shumoski (Marple-Newtown High School/Broomall, PA) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week for the week ending January 30, 2005.

Shumoski becomes the first CACC Women’s Basketball player this season to earn Player of the Week honors three times. Leah shared Player of the Week honors for the Week of January 16, 2005 and earned the award for the week ending November 28, 2004 earlier this season. It is also the fifth time Shumoski has been recognized by the CACC for her accomplishments on the basketball court, having been named to the CACC honor roll for the weeks ending January 10, 2005 and January 3, 2005.

Shumoski, a 6’0” junior forward, averaged 19.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2 steals leading the Devils to a perfect 2-0 record for the week. Shumoski shot 57.1% from the field (16-28) and 60.0% from the free throw line (6-10), recording her eighth and ninth double-doubles of the season.

Opening the week against Felician College, Shumoski came just shy of a triple double for the fourth time this season, scoring 20 points, grabbing 13 rebounds and dishing out seven assists. Leah connected on 7 of 12 shots from the field, including four of six in the second half as the Devils took command after trailing at halftime.

Shumoski followed her performance at Felician with another double-double, an 18-point 10-rebound effort against Post University. Leah scored 10 of her points in the first half and eight in the second, playing only seven minutes in the second half. Shumoski also had three steals, two blocks and an assist.

With her 10 rebounds, Leah moved into fifth place on the Devils all-time career rebound list with 637. Shumoski also moved into 10th place on the Devils all-time assist list and 4th place on the Devils all-time steals list this week with 162 career assists and 207 career steals.

The former Marple-Newtown High School athlete is in her third season of play for the Devils. Leah is currently leading the Devils in scoring (16.4 ppg.), rebounding (8.9 rpg.) and steals (74, 4.1 per game). Shumoski, the defending CACC Player of the Year, currently ranks amongst the CACC top 10 statistical leaders in five categories: scoring (4th); rebounding (6th); steals (1st); blocked shots (7th) and assist/turnover ratio (5th). Shumoski also ranks eighth nationally for NCAA Division II in steals.

Shumoski, a pharmacy major, is pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
