Tennis Spotlight:
Three in a Row for the Devils

The USP women's tennis team made it three wins in a row with a 6 1/2-2 1/2 win over Widener University.

The Devils captured five of the six singles matches to assure themselves of their third consecutive win. Amanda Bedway (Fr., Blue Mountain HS/Orwigsburg, PA) continues to dominate at #1 singles, defeating Stephanie Boyko 6-2, 6-1 for her seventh singles win of the season (7-1). Michelle Inzillo (Jr, Atlantic City HS/Margate, NJ) took the #2 singles match with an 8-6 pro-set win over Madonna Fiero for her fourth singles win of the season.

Meanwhile Rata Hojjat (Jr., Southern Lehigh HS/Center Valley, PA) remained perfect in singles competition (4-0)with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Meghan Malter at #3 singles. Tara Torrone (So., Red Bank Catholic, Lincroft, NJ) moved to 5-2 on the season in singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Miranda Craige at #4 singles and Anna Garber (So., Colonia HS/Colonia, NJ) defeated Yasna Polyakova 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 at #6 singes. For the second consecutive match, Kristen Hickey's (West Milford HS/West Milford, NJ) singles match was stopped on account of darkness.

The Devils also captured one of the three doubles matches. Stephanie Gabel(So., Acad. of Allied Health & Science/Hazlet, NJ) and Amy Wexler (Jr., Easton Area HS/Easton, PA) teamed up to win the #3 doubles, 8-5 over Alyson McKay and Polyakova.

The Devils are now 5-3 on the season. USP returns to action next Thursday with a home match against Neumann College.
