USP Women’s Basketball player Leah Shumoski (Marple-Newtown High School/Broomall, PA) was named the CACC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending November 28, 2004.

Shumoski, a 6’0” junior forward, averaged 16.5 points and 10 rebounds in the Devils first two games of the season last week. Shumoski also recorded 4 blocked shots and had five steals over the two games as the Devils split the two games they played.

Leah poured in 21 points on 8-for-19 shooting from the field against Philadelphia University last Saturday. In addition, Shumoski pulled down 14 rebounds, recording her first double-double of the season and the 24th of her career. Shumoski scored 13 of her 21 points in the second half as the Devils came back from a 15-point deficit only to fall to the Rams 71-68. Leah also had three steals and two blocks in the contest.

Shumoski kicked off the 2004-05 campaign with a 12 point, 6 rebound performance in the Devils 64-54 win against St. Michael’s College. Eight of her 12 points came in the second half. Shumoski also added two blocks, two assists and two steals.

The former Marple-Newtown High School athlete is in her third season of play for the Devils. Leah led the Devils in scoring (17.1 ppg.) and rebounding (8.9 rpg.) in 2003-04 and was named the CACC Player of the Year as the Devils captured the CACC Tournament Championship, advancing to the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Shumoski, a pharmacy major, is pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
