A 13-0 run by West Chester University in the first half put the USP put the Devils into a hole they could not climb out of as the Golden Rams went on to victory in last night's non conference matchup, 64-48.

USP trailed 12-9 with 11:09 left in the first stanza before the Golden Rams went on their run to open a 25-9 lead with 6:28 remaining. Eric Cangelosi's (So., Camden Catholic HS/ Haddon Heights, NJ) free throw with 6:07 left broke the run. USP's next field goal came at the 3:42 mark, a span of over seven minutes without a basket and made the score 27-14. USP outscored West Chester 8-2 over the final 2:38 to pull within seven at the half 29-22.

West Chester opened the second half with a 14-4 run over the first 7:37 of the half to take a 17-point lead 43-26. A basket by Chris Brattelli (Sr., Highland Regional HS/Clementon, NJ) and two free throws by Chris Dougherty (Sr., Haverford HS/ Haverford, PA) pulled the Devils within 13, 43-30 with 11:38 left. Brattelli later pulled the Devils within 12, 45-33 with a basket at the 8:27 mark. However this was as close as USP would come as the athleticism and strength of the West Chester team kept the pressure on the Devils, forcing several turnovers down the stretch and leading to the 16-point win.

Bill Kurtz (So., Shawnee HS/Shamong, NJ) led the Devils with 12 points. Gene Willard (Sr., Cardinal O'Hara HS/Broomall, PA) added 11 despite connecting on only 3 of nine field goal attempts and recording a game-high six turnovers. Brattelli and Cangelosi each chipped in nine points for USP in the losing effort.

USP (1-3) opens conference play with a home game against Felician college on Thursday, December 2, 2004.
