The USP men's tennis team started their spring season off right, recording a near sweep of Arcadia University, 7-1 yesterday.

USP swept all three doubles matches and captured four of the six singles contests en route to the win to improve to 2-1 overall.

Tyler Weisel (Fr., Greater Latrobe Sr. HS/Greensburg, PA) and Olufemi Ogunkorode (So., Upper Darby HS/Upper Darby, PA) cruised to an 8-1 win over Tim Fitzgerald and Nick Cocco at #1 doubles while Roberto Franco (Jr., Abraham Lincoln HS (Lima, Peru)/Smithtown, NY) and Dave Sen (So., Eastern Regional HS/Voorhees, NJ) scored an 8-2 pro-set win over Dan Bradley and Manuel Olaciregvi. Ryan Pell (So., West York Area HS/York, PA) and Daniel Lewycky (Sr, Oratory Prep HS/Warren, NJ) rounded out the doubles winners with a 9-7 win over Tom Fries and Matt Rogers.

In singles competition, Ogunkorode, Pell, Lewycky and Sen were winners. Ogunkorode defeated Olaciregvi 8-5 at #3 singles while Pell defeated Tom Fries, 6-2, 6-4 at #4 singles. Lewycky needed three sets to defeat Brett Zaba at #5 singles, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 while Sen also required three sets at #6 singles to defeat Matt Rogers, 7-6, 4-6, 7-6.

At #1 singles, Weisel defaulted in his match against Tim Fitzgerald, giving Arcadia their lone win of the match. Franco's #2 singles match against Nick Cocco never took place, being called on account of darkness.

Next up for USP is a home match against West Chester University on Tuesday, March 22, 2005.
