Women's Tennis Team to Participate in NCAA Regionals

The NCAA announced the pairings yesterday for the Division II Women's Tennis Championships which will start on May 4, 2006 at institutional sites and continue in Kansas City, Missouri with the round of 16 on May 10. The national championship match will be held at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City on May 13, 2006.

The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships by winning the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference title in October 2005. The Devils will be the #8 seed competing in the East Region and will face host Bloomsburg University, the region's #1 seed on Thursday, May 4, 2006.

The Devils (8-6) are led by sophomore Amanda Bedway (Blue Mountain HS/Orwigsburg, PA). Bedway compiled an 8-4 overall singles record and a 10-2 doubles record during the 2005-06 season.

Bedway will team up will freshman Sarah Leonard (West Chester East HS/West Chester, PA) at #1 doubles. Leonard, who will play at the #2 singles position was 7-7 overall in singles competition and 5-9 in doubles. Leonard will compete at #2 singles.

At #3 singles will be senior Michelle Inzillo (Atlantic City HS/Margate, NJ). Inzillo was 6-4 during the season in singles and 5-4 in doubles competition. Freshman Gabrielle Exler (Timber Creek HS/Sicklerville, NJ) will team up with Inzillo at #2 doubles and will compete at #4 singles. Exler compiled a 5-6 singles record and was 4-10 in doubles competition during the season.

Rounding out the Devils six competitors will be freshman Christina Sebastiani (Paulsboro HS/Sewell, NJ) and junior Rachel Salahub (Cedar Crest HS/Allentown, PA). Sebastiani will compete at #5 singles, while Salahub competes at #6 singles. Sebastiani was 8-3 on the season in singles competition and 8-2 in doubles. Salahub was 2-3 in singles and 0-1 in doubles. The two will team up to form USP’s #3 doubles team.

The winner of the USP-Bloomsburg match will take on the winner of the Stonehill College-Queens College match on Friday, May 5, 2006, with the winner of that match advancing to the round of 16 in Kansas City on May 10th.
