Devils Cruise to Fourth Straight Conference Win

Twelve different players scored as the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's basketball team cruised to a 74-42 win over Felician College Saturday afternoon at the Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia.

The win is the Devils fourth straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference triumph, improving their league record to 5-4 and their overall record to 8-6. Felician falls to 1-17 overall and 0-10 in league games.

Shelby Rance (Sr., Central Columbia HS/Bloomsburg, Pa.) led the Devils with 17 points. Rashanna Edwards (Sr., West Windsor-Plainsboro HS/Cherry Hill, N.J.) and Hayley Lentz (Jr., Wilson Area HS/Easton, Pa.) added nine points apiece; Davitra Goode (Sr., Central Islip HS/Central Islip, N.Y.) had seven and Autumn Tully (So., Union-Endicott HS/Endicott, N.Y.) and Erin Chesnavich (Fr., Bishop O'Reilly HS/Pittston, Pa.) added six points each. Lentz also paced the Devils with seven rebounds. Lori Sedina (Sr., Lower Cape May HS (NJ)/Springfield, Pa.) led the Devils with five assists while Edwards and Emily Aponte (Fr., Dumont HS/Dumont, N.J.) had four assists each.

Crystal Ferrer had 12 points and seven rebounds for the Golden Falcons while Dee Dee Smith added eight points and a game-high eight rebounds.

The Devils led from the opening tap, jumping out to a 13-2 lead in the first 5:15. The Devils would later expand the lead to 27-10 and 38-14 before Felician scored the final six points to send the Devils into the locker room at the break with an 18-point lead, 38-20.

Still leading by 18 two minutes into the second half, the Devils went on a 20-5 run to put the game out of reach. USP opened the run with a layup by Allison Weiss (So., Springfield HS/Springfield, Pa.) and two straight layups by Lentz. Rance followed with the Devils fourth straight layup and was fouled on the play. Shelby completed the three-point play to make it nine straight points for the Devils and give USP a 52-25 lead.

Rance added two more jumpers after Felician's Diane Burns broke the streak to make the score 56-27. Burns followed with a layup and Krystal Dixon made one of two free throws to make the score 56-30. Chesnavich added a layup and Tully added a three-point field goal from the top of the key to boost the Devils lead to 31, 61-30 at the midway point of the period. Edwards added a short jumper to end the run and give the Devils their biggest lead of the game, 63-30 with 8:50 left.

Felician cut the lead back down to 26, but the Devils made eight of 10 free throws over the final three minutes to close out the game with an 8-2 run for the 74-42 win.

For the game, the Devils made 28 of 65 shots from the field (43.1%) while Felician was held to just 24.2% shooting (16-66). USP made 14 of 19 from the free throw line (73.7%) while Felician made 8 of 14 (57.1%). The Devils held a slight 48-45 advantage on the boards and forced 28 turnovers while committing 21.

The Devils return to action on Tuesday January 16, 2007 when the travel to take on area rival Philadelphia University. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
