In their first games since returning from their spring break trip to Florida, the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's softball team took on nearby Drexel University in a doubleheader at Drexel Field this afternoon. The Dragons swept both games, defeating the Devils, 6-1 in the opener and 9-0 in the nightcap.

The Devils fall to 3-7 with the losses. Drexel improved to 4-3 on the season with the two wins.

The Dragons got a two run-home run in the first inning against Erin Degnan (Fr., Gwynedd Mercy Academy, Doylestown, Pa.), erasing a 1-0 USP lead. Drexel's Lisa Williams and Molly Dacey also homered for the Dragons with Williams blasting a two-run shot in the fifth and Dacey a solo hit in the sixth. USP manufactured their lone run in the first as Sarina Lavooy (Sr., Vernon Township HS/Sussex, NJ) and Annie Abbate (Fr., St. John Villa Academy/ Brooklyn, N.Y.) drew walks to start the game. Shannon Roth (Jr., Cumberland Valley HS/Mechanicsburg, Pa.) sacrificed the runners into scoring position and Lavooy later scored on a wild pitch to give the Devils an early 1-0 lead. The Devils managed just four singles during the game with Bethanne Bossert (Fr., St. Hubert's HS/Philadelphia, Pa.) getting two of them. Breanna Gomez got the win for Drexel while Degnan suffered the loss.

In the nightcap, the dragons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back enroute to the 9-0 win. Kristin Beaver's three-run home run in the sixth invoked the mercy rule and sent the Devils home early. USP also had only four singles in the nightcap. Megan Trimble (Sr., Coatesville Area HS/Coatesville, Pa.) got two of them, going 2-for-2 with a walk in the game. Rachel Morgan (Fr., Clackamas HS/Clackamas, Ore.) took the loss for the Devils.
