Jessica Day had three of the hits eight hits against Degnan, including a solo home run and an RBI single. Kim Paynter took the loss, allowing seven earned runs while striking out one and walking none.

It was the Griffins that struck first, scoring two times in their first at-bat as Julie Treen reached on a two base infield error to score both Michelle Bauer and Day and give the Griffins a 2-0 lead.

The Devils got the runs back in the second inning as Ebersole led off with a triple and scored on an error by the shortstop on the throw back into the infield. Schappell and Brown followed with singles with Schappell scoring on Czajka's single to even the game at 2-2.

Day launched her solo home run over the left-centerfield fence in the top of the third, putting Chestnut Hill ahead for the moment 3-2 until the Devils struck for six runs in the bottom of the third to take an 8-3 lead. Tu singled to left to start the inning and came around to score on Samantha Lavooy's (Sr., Vernon Township HS/Sussex, N.J.) triple off the bottom of the centerfield fence. Ebersole followed with an RBI single and Schappell reached on an infield error. Brown added a single to load the bases with nobody out for Czajka, who doubled into the centerfield gap to score two more runs and give the Devils a 6-3 lead. Three batters later, Bossert lined a single into left centerfield to score Czajka and Brown and the Devils had an 8-3 lead.

USP added two more runs in the fifth as Ashley Tobin (So., Warwick HS/Lititz, Pa.) singled to start the inning and scored on Ashlee Trupp's (So., Daniel Boone HS/Birdsboro, Pa.) double. Trupp later scored on Tu's single to left field. A great play by Bauer at shortstop snagging a low line drive by Ebersole and turning it into a double play saved the Griffins from any further damage. Two walks in the top of the sixth and a single by Day scored the final run of the day for Chestnut Hill as the Devils recorded a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh with Degnan getting Laura Barrett looking at a called third strike to end the game.
