The CardSharks defense held strong at the same time the offense provided just enough to defeat the two-time defending NIFL Champion Ohio Valley Greyhounds at Boardwalk Hall on Saturday night. The CardSharks (4-5) came into the game looking to avenge the 51-8 loss suffered on April 30th in Ohio Valley. The Greyhounds (8-2) have now lost merely three games in the past three seasons.

Former Greyhounds led the effort against their ex-mates, as Wide Receiver Greg Muckerson, Defensive End Eddie Bynes, and Corner Chonn Lacey all made major contributions in the victory. Muckerson scored 3 touchdowns on the night, and was second among ‘Sharks receivers with 7 catches for 48 yards. Bynes had a successful night on the line, with 5 solo tackles, 6 assists and even recorded a ½ sack. Lacey’s fumble recovery and interception in the final seconds helped secure the victory for the ‘Sharks. Lacey also recorded 2 solo tackles, 3 assists and broke up several passes.

Head coach and General Manager of the CardSharks, Mike Siani said, “We got a wonderful effort from our defense tonight. Our defensive line played well, and our secondary came up with timely stops.” Siani excitedly added, “This was the biggest upset in the history of the National Indoor Football League. They are a great team, and for us to beat them in our first year is quite a thrill for our players and fans.”

The effectiveness of the ground game was a key weapon for both teams. ‘Sharks Running Back Ron Lewis rushed the ball for a season high 67 yards on carries, with 1 touchdown. Greyhounds’ Running Back Rayshawn Askew also racked in 126 yards, with 2 touchdowns.

Tickets are still available for the next game at Boardwalk Hall on June 5th against the Evansville Blue Cats at 7:30 PM. The CardSharks will pay tribute to New Jersey and New York’s Finest, Bravest and EMTs. For tickets, call Ticketmaster at 1-800-736-1420 or visit them on the web at www.ticketmaster.com.
