South Jersey Youth Football:
Spotlight on the Minutemen (Unlimited Division)
A Team To Watch

It was opening game under the lights at the Washington Twp. football complex as our Minutemen took the field against the Seneca Eagles. Winning the toss the Minutemen would march up field as the offensive line opened the way for running back#32 Keith Schrumpf and a 20-yard touchdown run. Shrumpf would also contribute with a dazzling display of moves on the first punt return of the game for a 35-yard touchdown.

The Minutemen’s defense stopped the Eagles run cold and when they went to the air it was the speed of free safety #26 Vincent Marcucci who’s interception at the Eagles 40 yard line set up the next 30 yard touchdown run also by Marcucci who exploded through the line untouched.

The Seneca Eagles were no match for the power of our offense and defensive of line who proved superior in all aspects of the game. Hard-hitting #55 Matt Bruno broke through the line to pressure the quarterback and sack him twice.

Quarterback #10 Kyle Nolan coached by offensive coordinator John Dunbar confused the Eagles defense with excellent plays and handoffs to fullback #40 Anthony Astorga who’s strong running and yardage set up Kyle Nolan for a 15-yard quarter keeper around the end for a touchdown.

Head coach Anthony Astorga and his staff had our boys fired up for the game and should be pleased by their performance. Assistant coaches Leon Pirillo, Pat Healey and Denny McGrail watched their coaching pay off as sounds of pads crunching came from some strong defensive hits by #98 Remnel McGinnis, #55 Matt Bruno, #33 Dan Hearn and safety #26 Vincent Marcucci to keep our boys on top with the final score Minutemen-30, Eagles-0.

Next game Saturday, Sept.13 9:00 PM…
