By Marty Cross
Camden Lynx Football Club

The 2005 South Jersey Lynx open the season with a 34-3 win over the New Jersey Wolves of the Garden state Football League. Although the Lynx got off to a slow start, they managed to compose themselves and play Lynx football. The Lynx defense held the Wolves running game in check while scoring two of their own touchdowns. John Haltiwanger picked upa a fumble and rumbled 58 yards for the score. On the next possession, Delvin Jones emerged from the cloud of dust to scamper 17 yards after the Wolves running back fumbled. The Wolves were forced into 5 turnovers including an interception by the Lynx all-time interception leader, James Whaley. Offensively, the Lynx managed to play well considering several missing starters.

On the first series, Marty Cross hit Luis Cortes in the back of the endzone for the first score. The next score came when Cross ran 2 yards on a bootleg that caught the Wolves by surprise. Second year receiver Edwin Diaz, caught the last touchdown with the second of his two beautiful catches. Diaz out-jumped the defender and hauled in the 38 yard pass from Cross.
