South Jersey Lynx Press Release

STATEN ISLAND, NY - South Jersey Lynx (2-0, 3-1) played their 4th consecutive game on the road this time facing the Hudson County Stars (1-1, 1-1).

Although the Lynx were missing several starters, they came out victorious 20-0 on a cool day on the Island.

The Lynx entered the game not knowing what kind of team the Hudson County Stars were putting on the field. Although the Stars were beaten 32-0 in their only meeting last season, they were a scrappy team.

They showed much of the same this year.

The Lynx got off to a slow start and stayed out of sync for much of the first quarter. "Having different players in different positions every week is hard to overcome," said 4th year Head Coach Lester Cream Jr., "I'm just trying to do what II have to do until we get some of our players back."

Lynx RB Rodney Paige opened the scoring with a run from three yards out. Clifford Horsey's point after

attempt was blocked. On their next possession, the

Lynx offense spread the field and Marty Cross hit Maurice Taylor up the sideline to the Stars 10 yard line for a gain of 54 yards and a first down. Three plays later, Cross hit Peter Fountain in the back corner of the end zone for a 6 yard score. The Lynx took a 12-0 lead into the half.

The defense held the Stars in control for most of the game. They gave up 153 total yards, 106 of those yards came on the ground. The Stars averaged 4.8 yards on 22 attempts. This is the first time the Lynx have given up 100+ rushing yards in 14 regular season games. Not such a bad thing when it was clear the Stars should have been passing. They only completed 5 passes for 47 yards. The Stars were held to 5 first downs the entire game. The 2006 defense has caused 3 more turnovers bringing the season total to 7 (4 fums, 3 ints). They were lead by DT Raymond Lindsey with 5 tkls, 2 FR, 1 FF.

The Lynx offense put the last points on the board when TE Samuel Ruh caught a tipped pass from Cross from 8 yards out. Clifford dropped back to pass on the conversion before deciding to take it in himself 20-0.

Next opponent, New York Predators (0-1, 0-1) in Staten Island, NY. The game will be played at Monsignor Farrell High School at 3:00pm.
