High School Softball:
Haddonfield Wins Pitchers' Duel at Audubon

Friday, April 16, 2004

It was one of those games that opposing batters are left frustrated after they were unsuccessful at the plate. It was also one of those games that the pitchers love hearing or seeing that third strike called keeping runners off the base. The Bulldogs from Haddonfield sent Therese Taraschi on the mound to face Kiersten Hughes from Audubon. Both pitchers limited the hits in this game as this Colonial Conference teams were battling to stay ahead of the pack. Haddonfield would come up with that illusive run in the eighth inning to down Audubon by a 2-1 margin.

This game was a matchup of two undefeated teams from the ever Colonial Conference. With so many teams having a good start to their season, every win counts when the cutoff date approaches for the playoffs. Right now Haddonfield, Audubon, Sterling and Haddon Township were among the teams who were undefeated in league play, and that could and would change as the days go by.

Haddonfield struck first scoring a run in the first and that lead would up for five innings. Against these two excellent pitchers, scoring just one run is magnified when runs are hard to come by. Audubon would tie this game during the bottom half of the sixth inning. It wasn't until the top of the eighth inning when Kristen O'Neill scored an unearned run to push their record to 5-0 for the season. Audubon would suffer their first loss of the season.
