It was a game that had to be earned. When Audubon's girls' soccer team took the field today, they knew they had to continue to play well in order to extend their unbeaten streak to fourteen straight games. Also at stake was another chance at claiming the Colonial Conference Patriot Division championship. Standing in their way of accomplishing those goals were the Lady Gators from Gateway who played an outstanding game of soccer against the Green Wave. These two teams were unable to score a goal during regulation and through the first overtime session. The game winning goal finally would be scored when a header by Ashley Cannon caught everyone by surprise and Audubon would begin to celebrate capturing their third straight title.

Gateway started out this game gaining the momentum looking to score that all important first goal to set the ton. Audubon's defense would step up to the challenge and then take control leading to the offense have several chances at scoring. The first half would end leaving both teams strategizing ways for scoring during the second half. But both teams could not find a way of scoring and this game would have to be decided in overtime. Gateway would begin the period strong, but just couldn't gain a good position in putting the ball onto the net. Finally, off of a free kick, Cannon was able to gain position in a cluster of players to put the ball into the net for the win.
