High School Softball:
Holy Cross Picks up a Win Bishop Eustace

Thursday, April 27, 2006

With the month of May only a few days away, for many teams the threat of showers have been a distant thought as rain has mostly avoid our area and allowing outdoor events free of being rescheduled or cancel. For the Lady Lancers from Holy Cross, they would be happy to pick up another win when they traveled to Bishop Eustace looking to put together a win streak under these sunny skies. With an early three run lead over the home team, Holy Cross watched their advantage dwindle down to a single run. The Lancers would rally during the late innings and defeat the Crusaders 6-2 in a non-league game.

Both of these teams had won the last game and were looking to put together a win streak as the cutoff date to qualify for the postseason wasn’t too far away. Kia Dooley has won her previous two games for Bishop Eustace on the mound and would be looking to extend the Crusaders success to three games. Lauren Gilbride had struck out twelve batters against Pemberton and would be looking to keep the Crusaders from putting too many runs on the scoreboard. The Lancers were the ones showing a 3-0 lead until the bottom of the third when Kelly Blake crushed a solo homerun for Eustace. The Crusaders would score another single run in the bottom of the fifth but Holy Cross would put this game away by scoring three more times during their next at bat.
