High School Baseball: Buena Finds Their Stroke against Vineland Saturday, May 20, 2006 By Vincent Lewis SJSports Staff Writer The 33rd Annual Joe Hartmann South Jersey Diamond Classic was in its final weekend as the sixteen team field would be narrowed down to four teams by the end of the day. Two of the teams advancing to today's quarterfinal round played at Washington Township High School would be the Fighting Clan from Vineland taking on the Buena Chiefs. Vineland would score twice in the third inning, but it would be the bottom of the fourth that decided this game. When that inning was completed, sixteen batters came up to the plate scoring twelve runs off of nine hits which included a three run homer by shortstop Jared Gruccio for Buena. High School Softball: Audubon Outlasts Buena and Pick up Sectional Title Thursday, June 2, 2005 By Susan Hall SJSports Special Correspondent It is not unusual to watch a softball game and the two teams could not come away with the victory after seven full innings. When that happens, most of the attention is focused on the opposing pitchers on the mound. For the Green Wave from Audubon, Kiersten Hughes has been spectacular on the mound and her counterpart Jess Goeller for Buena came up big extending this game into extra innings. With several attempts to win this game, Audubon’s efforts were finally paid off during the bottom of the thirteenth inning. The Green Wave had the game winning run on third base and Stephanie Taraschi delivered the biggest hit of the game giving Audubon not only the 1-0 victory, but also the South Jersey Group 2 title.
