Burlington Township Gets By Florence

There was a lot at stake for the Burlington Township boys basketball team. With just two games remaining in their season, Township needed to defeat Florence and win their last game to capture the Burlington County League's Freedom Division. This game had flashes of great plays amid stretches of air balls, turnovers and bricks, but Township came away with a 49-46 victory over Florence.

In the first quarter, neither team had much success finding the basket. When the quarter ended, only a total of thirteen points was scored amongst the two teams combined and a ton of turnovers. The Falcons found the basket more often than the Flashes in the second quarter and took a 22-14 lead to the locker room.

Florence battled back and made a close game out of this in the final quarter. Now, the game was tied at 46 with just over a minute when Nagee Lundy was fouled under the basket. Lundy would miss both attempts. Township's Greg Williams drove the ball from one end to the other and collided with Jamaal Lundy who drew the block. Williams, who had a game high 18-points, hit both free throws to make it 48-46. With seconds left, Florence missed their attempt to tie the game and Burlington got the rebound as time apparently ran out. Township will now face Palmyra for the division title.
