Gloucester Catholic Wins the Pitcher's Duel

It was a match-up between two of the most dominating pitchers in the area. Camden Catholic's Alyssa O'Connell versus Gloucester Catholic's Brittney Carosia received most of the attention on this day as the Lady Rams were looking to pick up their second win in the road this time at Camden Catholic. The Lady Irish would gain the early momentum in this game, but a close play at home quickly swung this game in favor of the visiting team. A key hit by Shauna Vennell provided only run of the game for Gloucester Catholic and the Lady Rams would pick up the 1-0 victory in a non-league game.

Camden Catholic started out their bottom half of the first inning with runners on first and third and no outs. On a fly ball to outfield, Brittany Pagano ran back to the bag to tag up and started towards home plate. Vennell’s catch and throw to home plate was a very close play and Pagano was called out. From that point on, Carosia began to find her control and kept the Lady Irish from putting together another big inning like the first. During the top of the third inning, Kristen Collins singled and later stole second and third base. With two outs, Vennell singled giving the Lady Rams a one run led they would be able to protect for the rest of the game.
