Golf Preview:
Cherokee Expects to Compete With the Best

The Cherokee High School golf team is expecting a good season, despite losing some key players after their 20-5 record last year, notably letter winners Jon Guise, Per Andersson, and Karl Magnusson. Experienced players returning include seniors Tony Rubino and Josh Smargiassi, as well as sophomore Hugh Arbuthnot.

"We will be a good team," said coach Paul Budniak. "When we play well, we will be able to compete with the best in our division. We need someone to step up and replace Magnusson, who often shot below 40. Tony Rubino could be #1, with Josh Smargiassi at #2. Other possibilities are Greg Voorhees (a senior), Hugh Arbuthnot, and Doug Cusick (a sophomore)."

Three freshmen newcomers will be joining the team, Keith Pareti, Jeff Press, and Ben Voorhees. As unknown factors, they could hold a few surprises.

Coach Budniak sees Lenape, Triton, and Shawnee as the teams to beat in the Olympic Conference.
