High School Ice Hockey:
Kinniry Scores Twice as Cherokee Blanks East

Justin Kinniry scored two goals and Doug Ball stopped all 20 shots as Cherokee defeated Cherry Hill East 4-0 in Tier 1 action played in Voorhees. After a scoreless first period, Kinniry got Cherokee going as he picked off an errant clearing pass in the East end and slid a backhander along the ice for 1-0 lead. The goal came in the middle of a Cherry Hill power play. Cherokee took advantage on their power play midway through the period as Tom Paradise scored with Zach McCarty getting the assist. Cherokee continued the offensive pressure, but East goalie Mike London made several great saves to keep his team close.

East’s best opportunity came in the third period as Dave Hastings was all alone down low, but Ball stoned him to keep the shut out in tact and two late goals by seconds apart, one by Ryan Thompson and the other by Kinniry put the game away.

Notes: Earlier this month we noted that the referees were enforcing the “new rules” more, however as Jack, one of the officials informed us that the rules aren’t new, they just are enforcing them more. We stand corrected.
