Cherry Hill East Crowned Tier 2 Champions

Cherry Hill East capped off an almost perfect season with a 7-1 win over St. John Neumann to capture the Tier 2 Championship at Hollydell on Friday night. East finished the regular season with sixteen wins, no losses and one tie and with the victory showed that balanced scoring, discipline and solid goaltending will win championships. Five different players scored for East as James Brown, Mike Danyo, Louis Stomel, Kevin Desrochers and Tim Woods all found the back of the net. Goaltender Stephen Saunders, when called upon, made the saves. Unfortunately as the outcome of the game became less in doubt, some players lost focus on just finishing the game and were more intent on being physical.

Hopefully this was just a blip on the screen, as for the most part this season has been void of chippy and unclean play. Heading into the playoffs, teams that avoid the penalties and are disciplined to skate away from confrontation will go far and be successful. Those that do not will go home early.
