Cherry Hill East Ends Season For Township

Cherry Hill East came into Hollydell as an underdog on Friday, but it was Washington Township that saw its season end with an 8-5 loss. Township never led in the game, but rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game at 4-4 midway through the third period and it looked as though the momentum had swung to the home team. Andrew Roth would score two consecutive goals to put East back up 6-4 with three minutes left.

Trying to get back into this game, Township would then pull the goalie and Mike Antonelli scored his second goal of the game to put East up by 7-4. Ten seconds later, Fred Brewer brought Township back to 7-5 scoring from in close. Then with East on the power play in the final seconds, Kevin Vaks scored while Township’s goalie was leaving for an additional skater, saw the puck but fanned on the clearing pass leaving an empty net for Vaks. An empty feeling for the Township fans, heavy favorites coming into this game.

Notes: East has been on a roll since the tournament began after struggling to 3-11-4 record and are two wins away from playing in the finals.
