When the Pirates Ed Marker was on the ice last night he was the best player by far, as St. John Neumann rolled past Cherry Hill West 9-2 in the second game played at Hollydell in the SJHSIHL on Friday night. Marker opened the scoring as he converted on a short-handed breakaway in the first minute of play and the early 1-0 lead. That lead doubled just over two minutes later as Jim Porreca scored with the assist going to Pete Klukiewski and the Pirates led 2-0.

But the catalyst was Marker as he created numerous scoring opportunities for his team. With West on the power play with just over four minutes left in the period, he would assist on the Pirates second short-handed goal as Dom Fratagelli found the back of the net with Joe Ligambi also assisting. The period ended with the Pirates up 3-0 and having outshot West 13-2.

Cherry Hill West scored at the end of a power play as Mike Gumper jumped on a loose puck and scored unassisted to cut the deficit to 3-1. Steve Pizzo quickly answered for Neumann to push the lead back to 4-1 midway through the second period. Marker would score the next two goals with assists going to Fratagelli and Rob Zeoli and the Pirates headed into the third period up 6-1. Porreca scored in the first nine seconds of the third period and the lead was 7-1. Marker proved he was human as he took a penalty and then complained about the call, and spent the last twelve minutes of the game in the penalty box.

Alex Vasserman, who also has exceptional speed, scored at the nine-minute mark for West and it was 7-2. But Fratagelli picked up the slack with Marker out for the game and scored on the power play and assisted on Ted Jenkins goal to close out the scoring at 9-2.
