Cherry Hill West Adjustments Enough against Millville

It was the second time this season that these two teams competed against one another but this time it was a bit difference. This was the opening round of the South Jersey Group IV girls' soccer tournament and the ninth seeded Thunderbolts were trying to upset the eight seeded Lady Lions from Cherry Hill West. The winner would advance to the next round against the top seeded Vikings from Eastern. Millville would adjust nicely from their defeat to Cherry Hill West earlier in the season, but the Lions still had an answer and that was defense. Arielle Caldas goal was the only goal needed as Cherry Hill West advanced to the next round with their 2-0 victory.

These two teams met during the first day of the season with the Lions controlling that game from start to finish. At the start of the postseason, Millville would come out with a different game plan guarding tightly those players that control their match ups. The Thunderbolts guarded their net in a team effort trying to slow down Cherry Hill West’s attack. Caldas would find an answer by scoring the first goal of the game. Maureen O’Neill would score the next goal for West and the Lions would move onto the quarterfinals of the Group IV bracket.
