Eastern Out Fox-ed By Clearview

Gunnar Fox tallied twice and added an assist as Clearview held off Eastern 7-4 and remains undefeated this season. Fox opened the scoring in the opening minute as he broke in with John Probe on a 2-on-1. After Probe made the defenseman commit he slid the puck to Fox who deposited it into the empty net. Just over two minutes later Fox led another odd man rush and his slap shot from just inside the blue line went in off goaltender Manny Rayo's glove and it was 2-0.

Most of the period seemed to have been spent in the Clearview offensive zone and the bounces were going their way. The most fortuitous bounce occurred at the eight- minute mark when Probe threw the puck from behind the net. The puck deflected off an Eastern defenseman and into the net and suddenly it was 3-0. Although Coach Pontonio has a fairly young team, they kept their poise and continued to battle. Their first opportunity came with less than three minutes remaining in the period and Clearview had two men in the penalty box. Adam Roy worked his way through the defense and his power play goal made it 3-1.

Clearview responded one minute later on a slap shot by Bill Dunbar from the point and after one it was 4-1. Two early power play goals by Clearview made it 6-1, but back came Eastern as Brian Schellenhammer scored twice in a span of one minute and after two it was 6-3. When Tom Fadako scored five minutes into the third period, Eastern seemed to have the momentum and they were back to within 6-4. But Jon Gardner intercepted a bad-clearing pass with the goalie pulled and his empty-netter closed out the scoring.
